Drivers Education of America is approved by the Ohio Department of Public Safety (OHDPS) and accepted by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (OH BMV) License #2735

: ;How long is this course?

The course content is 24 hours long and you may take a maximum of four (4) hours of content a day.

: ;When can I start this course? What is the age limit?

New Ohio Law for Drivers Under 21 Begins September 30, 2025. A new state law requires new drivers* aged 18, 19, and 20 to complete a “Class D” driver education course before they can test for a driver’s license. Teen and young adults of the ages of 15 years and 5 months and 20 years old may take this course. Adults 21+ who qualify for a Limited Term license are welcome too.  You must be an Ohio resident.

: ;Is there a course expiration?

You have 6 months (180 days) from the date of purchase to complete this course.

: ;How can I get my TIPIC (or learner’s permit)?

: ;What happens if I answer a question incorrectly? Why am I watching a video again?

If you selected the wrong answer on a question you may be asked to watch the video over again for another attempt at a different question.

: ;What is that red line at the bottom of the page?

That line displays the time that you have to spend on that page before you can move on through the course. The red line timer is directly connected to the progress of the video on the page. If the video is paused then the red line timer is paused too!

: ;What is the Parent Identity Verification?

Per the State of Ohio requirements, a parents’ identity must be verified prior to the student starting the course. Adults age 18 or older may enter their own personal information when asked to verify the parents identity. We use a third party verification service Persona to match a person’s information against national identity databases to find an identity match and confirm a person’s identity.

: ;How many times I can fail the final exam at the end of the course?

You have three (3) opportunities to get a passing grade of 75% on the final exam which consist of 50 questions. (Passing means getting 38 out of 50 questions correct.)

: ;How does the student identity verification work? Does the course lockout the student for wrong answers?

The student identity verification asks the student to verify their information throughout the course. Should the student answer two security identity verification questions incorrectly, the student must wait for 24 hours before resuming the course.

: ;What are the restriction for drivers with a TIPIC?

Drivers must carry the TIPIC at all times when driving.
If under age 16, drivers must have a parent, guardian or licensed driving instructor in the passenger seat when driving.
If the driver is age 16 or older, driving with any valid licensed driver over the age of 21 in the passenger seat is permitted, except from midnight – 6 a.m., when the driver must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The parent, guardian, or licensed driver in the passenger seat shall not be intoxicated.
All passengers and driver must wear safety belts.

: ;What can I do if my information is incorrect on my certificate? Is there a charge?

If you notice that any of your information is incorrect, you may correct it by pressing the “Profile” menu button. Change the incorrect information and make sure to click “Save”. Do this before completing the course and printing your certificate.

If the error is not corrected before your certificate has been submitted to the Ohio Department of Public Safety (OHDPS), there will be a $10 reissue fee to make the correction.

You can contact us to update the information for your Certificate of Completion after your certificate has already been issued.

: ;What happens if my account expires?

If your account expires after 6 months of signing up for the course than you must retake the course which means creating a new account and paying for the course again.

: ;What is a Limited Term License?

A Limited Term license is issued to adults who meet certain eligibility criteria set by the Ohio BMV. It allows qualified individuals to legally drive in Ohio while completing any remaining licensing steps.

A limited term license is the form of driver license issued to temporary residents in the United States that is valid for the duration of their stay. A temporary resident is a person who is not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident under U.S. immigration laws, but who does have legal presence in the country. In 2024 the Ohio BMV issued 33,748 new limited term licenses.
